Armenia
A Nation Facing Displacement and Economic Struggles
Armenia, though small, is grappling with significant challenges, especially due to the aftermath of the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war. The conflict displaced over 100,000 ethnic Armenians, with many of them still living in temporary shelters or urban areas. Additionally, Armenia's unemployment rate is high, with about 18% of the population affected, and over 25% of the population lives below the poverty line. The country also faces food insecurity, with almost 40% of rural households struggling to meet their basic nutritional needs. Christian Armenians, who make up the majority of the population, continue to navigate regional tensions, with religious minorities, including Yazidis and other smaller Christian groups, also facing discrimination and hardships.
2025 Initiatives
- Education Program (January 2025): Our educational program in Armenia is supporting around 100 kids who migrated from Karabakh during the last war. We are providing them with stationery, books, teachers for all subjects, and other materials that help them with their studies and moving to higher levels. The area of Karabakh suffered from a bloody war last year, and most of its Christian inhabitants had to flee the area and migrate to towns in Armenia close to the border.
- Medical Support (February 2025): Our medical support program in Armenia is supporting around 70 displaced Christian families from Dilijan. It's taking care of the elderly and newborn babies by distributing medications and prescribed milk products for newborn babies with medical problems in their digestive system and stomach. The whole program is taking care of around 250 Christians from the destroyed area of Karabakh.
- Food Canning Facility (March 2025 - Present): A multifunctional building is planned to be constructed, serving as both a production facility and an educational and event center on a piece of land offered by a Christian group in Armenia. It will include a vegetable canning facility, equipped with modern technology to ensure high-quality production, and a fruit and vegetable drying area, where natural drying processes will be used to preserve the nutritional value of the produce.
- Church Renovation/Sewing Factory (July 2025 - Present): Our team completed the renovation of a historic church and community hall belonging to the Armenian Assyrian Christians, one of the oldest Christian communities in the world. When it was damaged in the recent conflict in Karabakh, hope felt far away. While the church renovation brought spiritual and communal restoration, an even more practical and life-changing development unfolded just down the hall: the opening of a sewing factory that now empowers 30 women, most of whom are widows, learn sewing and use it to produce income.
